Transfers in Maldives:

Velana International Airport is the main international airport of Maldives & is located on an island named Hulhulé. Hulule Island is 1.2 miles from the capital Malé. There is no scheduled transfer from Hulhule Island to the other islands. Transfers to resorts would be arranged prior to arrival by us.

Since Maldives is made up of number of small islands, the only way to travel to them is via speedboats or flights. Depending on distance of resorts from the airport, either speedboats or flights followed by a quick speedboat ride will be arranged to transfer guests to the resort.

Maldives Location & Geography:

Maldives lies in two rows of atolls in the Indian Ocean. Spread over 90,000 square kilometers, over ninety-nine percent of the Maldives is made up of sea & less than one percent is land. The country comprises of around 1,192 coral islands formed around 26 natural ring-like atolls.

These atolls vary in size & character. Some are sandbanks while others are tropical islands with lush green vegetation, beautiful coral reefs alive with countless types of underwater creatures and vibrant corals, turquoise lagoons and white sandy beaches.

Maldives Weather & Climate:

Maldives has a tropical monsoon climate all year round. The weather in the Maldives is usually picture perfect: balmy mornings, sunlit days, lustrous sunsets & breezy nights. It experiences light to heavy showers which generally last no more than an hour. The temperature hardly ever changes with the average high temperature hovering around 30 degrees Celsius and average low temperature hovering around 25 degrees Celsius throughout the year. The Maldives lies in the equatorial belt which makes storms and cyclones extremely rare events.

Maldivian Culture:

Located at the crossways of trading routes in the Indian ocean, the culture of Maldives shows a confluence of various cultures namely Arab, African, Malay, South East Asia etc. Over the centuries, these cultures have shaped the Maldivian way of life. Maldivians are fun loving people and music & dance play an important role in Maldivian culture.

Dhivehi is the official language of Maldives but differs in dialect in some regions in the south of Maldives, possibly due to the secluded nature and subsistent ways of island life. English is widely spoken & understood by locals & at the resorts.

Maldives Economy:

Traditionally the economy of the Maldivians has been fishing but today tourism has become a major activity with the islands’ lovely beaches, shimmering sapphire waters and delightful climate attracting a steady influx of visitors from abroad.

Hailed as an idyllic tropical haven and with top-most luxury hotels and resorts developed on the islands, this secluded island formation has in recent years established a reputation as a delightful holiday and honeymoon destination attracting leisure travellers, families and newlyweds from different parts of the world.

Maldives Flora & Fauna:

Maldivian waters are home to more than 187 species of vibrant corals & over 1500 species of exotic marine animals. No wonder Maldives is also called as a diver’s paradise. Depending upon the resort location, guests can enjoy sights of beautiful whale sharks, manta rays & many other exotic species of marine life.

The Baa Atoll, Maldives has also been declared a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve, an area of natural excellence recognised for its unique harmony between man and nature. Located in the north of Male, it is home to some of the richest waters in the Maldives & houses some of the best of marine life.
